Is It Still Worth Opening a Medical Practice in 2025?
Jul 27, 2025
Many get put off from opening a medical practice due to statements of rising insurance complexities, increasing patient demand, and decreased insurance reimbursements.
But although yes, reimbursement rates "decreasing", there has been an increase and improving for value-based care models and hybrid billing strategies that combine insurance and cash-based services; which enhance reimbursement for clinic owners as a whole.
The advantages I see after being a clinic owner for 3 years now include, but are NOT limited to::
1. You Can Control Your Income & Lifestyle
Owning your own practice means you set your hours, your pricing, and your team. Done right, it creates financial freedom and exit value—something no W2 job can offer.
2. You Don’t Need to Take Insurance (Right Away)
With the rise of GLP-1 weight loss, hormone optimization, aesthetic medicine, IV therapy, and mental health, cash-based service lines are growing. Also, seeing how insurance premiums are rising, so people sometimes find it a better option to pay for cash as it sometimes ends up being more affordable for them.
Opening a clinic in 2025 is worth it but not if you repeat outdated strategies. Here’s what to avoid:
• Building without a business model
• Only accepting insurance without offering cash services - If insurance payment delays, you are stuck at a deficit until they decide to pay you but if you accept cash as well, you will have immediate reimbursement until the insurance reimbursement is received.
• Pricing your services emotionally instead of strategically
• Lack of automation for eligibility checks, follow-ups, and billing which can be quite time consuming requiring extra staffing to do manually, however, automating using technology will help you and save you thousands.
